Software Engineer (Aviation)

MDA is building the next generation Flight Instrument Procedures Development System (IPDS) for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  IPDS is a very algorithmically complex geospatial desktop PC application which integrates with a back-end FAA Enterprise Data solution over web services.  It enables Instrument Procedure Design Specialists to rapidly create flight procedures by working in a flexible 3D environment.

Are you a bright, capable engineer and computer scientist with a background in Object Orientated Design and Analysis? 

We are seeking new graduate and junior software engineers to join the team as we continue to expand our project.  Academic and work experience with C++, Window Forms, Web Services and XSLT are major assets.  Experience in other OO languages is also valuable as is experience in the Aviation Domain.  To develop software for this application, you need excellent analytic and design skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Having a background in either ESRI ArcGIS or Oracle Berkley XML DB is also an asset.

• Development of computationally intensive algorithms to define protected surfaces and intersect them with terrain and obstacles
• Development of User Interface in accordance with customer imposed standards
• Development of sophisticated Data Management solutions
• Complex software test case construction and execution

• Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Engineering Math/Physics degree
• Ability to understand and work with complex software requirement specifications
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of aircraft navigation concepts and systems an asset
• Experience in one or more of the following skill sets required:
• C++ Application Developer
  • Experienced in C++ and STL
  • Knowledgeable in OODA methodologies and Design Patterns
  • Experience with Visual C++ in Visual Studio 2005/8 environment
• Web Service and XSLT Developer
  • Knowledge of XML and XSD; knowledge of SVG an asset
  • Detailed knowledge of XSLT
  • Experience with Web Services and WSDLs
• NET / Windows Form UI Developer
  • Strong background in .NET technology
  • Experience in of C# and/or C++/CLI
  • Knowledge of one or more UI Toolkits such as DevExpress a further asset
