MDA to Research Information Solution for Protection of Maritime Forces Against Terrorist Threats
Richmond, B.C. - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today it has been awarded a $3.5 million CAD technology demonstration contract from Defence Research & Development Canada - Atlantic (DRDC Atlantic), an agency of Canada's Department of National Defence. MDA will research and demonstrate an information solution for the protection of maritime Naval forces against surface and underwater terrorist threats.
This project is aimed at developing effective protection of ships operating, anchored, or docked in port, as well as other valuable coastal and harbour assets. Working in collaboration with DRDC Atlantic, MDA will explore ship vulnerability in the event of an attack or threat, as well as MDA and third party information technology options for the detection, classification and potential mitigation of threats, and the integration of such information solutions with the command and control structure.
