For immediate release: November 30, 2005 MDA's Satellite Information Solution Advances Military Field OperationsRichmond, B.C. - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today Canada's Department of National Defence successfully deployed MDA's satellite surveillance and intelligence information solution in its Brigade Training Event 2005.
The exercise successfully demonstrated that commercial satellite imagery received directly in the field, as the satellite passes over, can enhance the effectiveness of military operations by providing commanders with improved situational awareness in their area of interest. Canada's current surveillance and reconnaissance capability does not include access to this type of real-time satellite imagery during deployed or remote operations.
"MDA supported a twelve day long military exercise of the Canadian Forces in Alberta with a satellite ground station that receives, processes and delivers high-resolution optical and radar satellite imagery" said Donna Coutts, Director of MDA's Earth Observation Solutions. "Detailed images on which to base strategic and tactical decisions were provided quickly and directly to commanders in the field".
MDA's satellite information solution is already successfully deployed by the US Army and US Air Force. About MDA
