MDA to Upgrade Training Simulators for the Canadian Navy

Richmond, B.C. – MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA) announced today that the company’s Information Systems group has been awarded contracts by the Government of Canada worth approximately $2.7 million to upgrade the Naval Combat Operator Trainer (NCOT) for the Department of National Defence.

The NCOT trainer is a computer-based simulation system of the Combat Systems of the Iroquois and Halifax Class warships of the Canadian Navy. They’re installed at the Canadian Forces bases at Halifax and Esquimalt, and used both for training new sailors and providing refresher training and advanced training to experienced personnel.

The NCOT system is very heavily used these days, in support of a variety of naval operations.

MDA has provided seven releases of the NCOT trainer as the Navy’s requirements have evolved. The dedicated NCOT software team at MDA will ensure that the new functionality in the latest contracts is available in the trainers by mid-September 2003.
