MDA Forges Strategic Alliances To Position Itself For Home Information Packs In England And Wales

Richmond, B.C. - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that it has signed several strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with key organizations in England and Wales to position itself as a leading provider of Home Information Packs (HIPs). HIPs, which consist of legal, disclosure and home inspection documents, must be provided by home sellers to prospective home buyers in England and Wales beginning in 2007.

Through these alliances, MDA intends to develop significant early routes to market through a process whereby after an initial trial, the organizations would adopt and promote the usage of MDA-developed and managed HIPs services to their respective members. MDA's MOUs are with the following organizations:

  • Three national real estate agent associations: These estate agent associations intend to offer and promote MDA's HIPs configuration and ordering services under a private-label arrangement to their nearly 1,800 estate agent offices.

  • A large independent home inspection company in the U.K. with over 360 chartered surveyors and 160 offices: The company intends to offer and promote MDA's HIPs configuration and ordering services under a private-label arrangement to its surveyors and the estate agents, lenders and other customers they work with.

    The MOUs, which begin an immediate cooperative process to ensure that MDA's HIP offering is responsive to market needs, are expected to convert to more formal agreements. MDA is proceeding to start offering trials of its HIP service in late 2005 in order to be ready for a legislated dry run phase in 2006.
