For immediate release: September 14, 2005 Federal Aviation Administration Partners With MDA For Improved Flight Path Design SolutionRichmond, B.C. - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that it has been awarded a sole-source agreement from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Under the agreement, the FAA will define the requirements and MDA will propose a multi-year program to modernize the design of safe flight paths for aircraft. The FAA then has the option under the agreement to have MDA implement the proposed solution over a four-year period. A similar flight path design solution developed by MDA is already in use at all U.S. Air Force Major Commands.
The FAA is responsible for all aspects of civil aviation in the U.S., including safety regulation and the operation of the air navigation system. If fully implemented, the solution should significantly reduce the time and effort currently required to create and maintain safe flight paths for civilian aircraft. In addition, the level of harmonization and coordination between civil and military air navigation should improve.
The initial definition phase of this program is valued at approximately $1 million CDN. About MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA)
