For immediate release: April 13, 2006 Provincial Government Awards Imaging Information Solution To MDARichmond, B.C. - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that it has been contracted by the Government of Ontario, through a broad public sector partnership coordinated by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Land information Ontario project to deliver an information solution consisting of high-resolution satellite imagery of eastern, central and selected areas of northern Canada captured by the QuickBird satellite. "This information solution represents the largest application of high-resolution satellite imagery we have undertaken in Canada," said John Hornsby of MDA. "Over 120,000 square kilometers of Eastern Canada will be monitored from space at a resolution of 60 centimeters. In other words, we can see individual objects as small as 60cm." Multiple levels in the Provincial and Local Government will use the information extracted from the images for such applications as source-water protection, conservation, land cover classification and detection of changes in the environment. The solution delivered by MDA will also support emergency planning. By analyzing current imagery, emergency workers can quickly determine the location and progress of damaging fire or flood. This will allow them to provide crucial information to emergency personnel and people in the area. The initial work is valued at over CAD $1.9 million and is expected to provide significant benefits to public sector organizations across the province.
