For immediate release: January 17, 2007 MDA On One Of Two Finalist Teams In Joint Support Ship ProcurementRichmond, B.C. - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that the CANAMP industrial team, of which MDA is a member, is one of the two finalists selected to carry out a project definition phase for the Joint Support Ship (JSS) project for the Canadian Navy. Each of the two finalist industrial teams were awarded identical 14-month, CAD $12.5 million contracts to prepare final proposals for the design, construction, and long-term in-service support of the JSS. The build contract for three ships and the 20-year in-service support contract are expected to be awarded to one of the two finalists in 2008, with the first ship scheduled for delivery in 2012. As a member of the CANAMP Team, MDA will focus on the Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Intelligence and Surveillance (C4IS) System. JSS vessels will play a key role supporting Canada's Naval and Joint Task Force missions around the world with the critical provision of fuel, supplies, equipment, and logistics coordination. CANAMP team leader ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems Canada Inc. is one of the world's premier builders of versatile merchant, auxiliary and naval vessels, on which the CANAMP team's JSS design is based. David Hargreaves, general manager of MDA's System Solutions business said, "This award gives MDA a chance at participating in building a key information solution for one of the largest defence procurements in Canada."
